Te Huka Unit 3 Power Plant : Civil Works

ABContracting contributed to the development of the Te Huka Unit 3 geothermal power station, an expansion of the existing facility on Centennial Drive in Taupō, New Zealand. This additional unit will generate approximately 51 megawatt of renewable electricity annually, enough to power 60,000 homes, while pioneering a design that enables future reinjection of carbon emissions into the geothermal reservoir.

ABContracting’s scope of work was the full civil works package. These essential works ensured a solid and efficient infrastructure base for the power plant, aligning with its innovative and sustainable energy objectives.

The project highlights ABContracting’s capability to deliver high-quality civil engineering solutions for renewable energy projects, supporting New Zealand’s transition to a more sustainable energy future.

Ngatamariki Power Station : Civil Works

ABContracting are successfully managing and delivering the civil works for the Ngatamariki Geothermal Power Station, ensuring the project’s foundational infrastructure meets the highest standards of structural integrity and durability.

The project focuses on constructing robust concrete foundations within the civil package to support the long-term operational demands of the geothermal facility. ABContracting is completing all aspects of the work, along with coordinating skilled contractors and ensuring adherence to strict quality, safety, and environmental protocols.

The scope of work includes comprehensive surveying and soil preparation to establish a stable base for the foundations. This was followed by the meticulous installation of steel reinforcement and precision formwork construction to shape the concrete components. Our team is managing the entire concrete process while conducting rigorous testing to meet NZS 3104 compliance.

This is another example of ABContracting maintaining stringent quality assurance measures and prioritising workplace safety, thereby ensuring the successful completion of this critical infrastructure and reinforcing our commitment to delivering excellence for projects that support New Zealand’s renewable energy future.

Topp2 Power Station, Kawerau : Civil Works

With this project ABContracting is proudly delivering the civil works for the Topp2 Power Station in Kawerau, laying the foundation for this critical energy infrastructure. Through meticulous planning and coordination, ABContracting oversee all aspects of the works and ensure the project meets stringent quality, safety, and environmental benchmarks.

The project aims to construct durable concrete foundations capable of supporting the client's infrastructure and operational demands for generations. The scope includes precise surveying and ground preparation to establish optimal conditions for construction. Steel reinforcement was expertly fabricated and installed to enhance structural integrity, while robust formwork systems ensure the foundations are shaped with accuracy and precision.

ABContracting also completed the concrete handling process, from batching and mixing to pouring and finishing, ensuring all activities met environmental and quality compliance. Advanced finishing techniques were applied to achieve the desired durability and aesthetics, preparing the foundations for subsequent construction phases.

By prioritizing health, safety, and environmental management throughout, ABContracting is successfully delivering a project that supports the long-term operational efficiency of this essential power station, further cementing our reputation as leaders in civil construction excellence.

Poihipi Power Station : Pipeline Civil Installation

ABContracting successfully completed the pipeline civil installation project at Poihipi Power Station, a geothermal power facility operated by Contact Energy near Taupo, New Zealand. The station, part of the Wairakei geothermal system, generates approximately 350 GWh annually using geothermal steam.

This project involved installing pipe supports for a new geothermal pipeline beneath an existing steamline, requiring precise coordination and adherence to safety protocols. Due to the proximity of the worksite to a state highway with limited access, effective traffic management was implemented to ensure minimal disruption and maintain public safety.

This project exemplifies ABContracting’s expertise in delivering infrastructure solutions in challenging environments, combining technical precision with operational efficiency to support New Zealand’s renewable energy infrastructure.
